The soundtrack CD to the long-deleted BBC programme "Eagle's Eye View". Liner notes:-
MacIain was the clan chief of the Glencoe MacDonalds at the time of the infamous Massacre of Glencoe in 1692.
A powerful man, even in later years, MacIain was shot from behind as he rose from bed, The died unceremoniously with many other members of his clan, men, women and children.
Producer/Director Hamish McInnes had asked me to write a song for his film "EAGLE'S EYE VIEW", a panoramic account of the area seen through the eyes of a golden eagle.
The inspiration came on a crisp February afternoon as I walked around the beautiful man-made loch above Glencoe village. Beyond on Loch Leven, I could see EIlean Mundem the burial isle of the MacDonalds of Glencoe, with its ruined church and old tombstones, beaneath a backdrop of the magnificent mountains. The words "Yet still my lonely spirit soars" sprang to mind, and that was the first line of the song. On return, I wrote the song in less than an hourm and the tune with equal swiftness - an unusual occurrence for me"
