I found this one in the Extra Mile charity shop a couple of weeks ago. The name rang a bell. I'm sure he was a local artist, but as there didn't appear to be anything connecting this particular release, I put it back on the shelf. That's the worst thing about ''5 for £1'' deals... I don't think I managed to find 5 decent ones in this particular visit, so it went back on the shelf.

A few days, or maybe a week or twol ater, I managed to find enough to pick up this CD, and ohhhh boy, am I glad I did. I've done that thing again where I pick a random track and find one that I love so much, that I haven't stopped playing it since I discovered it, and this one's "the Viking's Daughter". A hauntingly beautiful song about a fisherman, who.. .you guessed it, fell in love with a viking's daughter, and he'd happily have his end away with her, even if it means getting killed hy her father, you know, him being a lowly fisherman and all that.

In a twist of the tale, you find out that her father had been killed in battle. Of course, the song ends before you can determine if anything actually happened, but I can guarantee he went to bed that night with a smile on his face, surrounded by haddock.

I've yet to listen to the rest of the CD. I might not. I can't see how that song can be topped. What a brilliant little tune.
